Accommodation in and around Mansfield, VictoriaThere are lots of small communities that make up the Mansfield Shire, grouped here by their location in relation to the town of Mansfield. [ top of page ] North - Bridge Creek, Barwite, Tolmie, Barjarg, Nillahcootie, Lima SouthAttractions between Mansfield and the town of Benalla (60km to the north) include Mt Samaria State Park, which is just east of Lake Nillahcootie - one of the fastest filling lakes in Victoria. Nillahcootie is a popular lake for water skiing, fishing, sailing and other water activities. The communities of Bridge Creek, Barwite and Tolmie are located north east of Mansfield and contain some fantastic B&B's and self-contained accommodation options offering great views of Mt Buller. It is just a short trip from Tolmie to Whitfield and the wineries of the King Valley.
[ top of page ] East - Mt Buller, Merrijig, Sawmill Settlement, Alpine RidgeMt Buller is a major tourist attraction for the Mansfield district, offering remarkable sightseeing in the summer months and turning into Victoria's premier ski resort in winter. There are plenty of accommodation options on the mountain, ranging from youth hostels to luxury chalets. The smaller communities between Mansfield and Mt Buller, such as Merrijig, Sawmill Settlement and Alpine Ridge also offer a number of B&B's, hotels and resorts. These communities are also close to the Delatite River, Mt Timbertop (where Geelong Grammar have a campus), the camping grounds of Sheepyard Flat and the Howqua River. Mt Stirling and Craig's Hut - from the locally filmed movie, The Man from Snowy River - are popular bushwalking and four wheel driving destinations.
[ top of page ] South - Piries, Boorolite, Macs Cove, Goughs Bay, Howqua, Jamieson, KevingtonThere are some fantastic accommodation options accessible from the Jamieson Rd to the south of Mansfield along the eastern sides of Lake Eildon. Most of the smaller communities are located on the Delatite and Howqua rivers or Lake Eildon. The types of accommodation available are predominantly bed and breakfasts, caravan parks and camping grounds, along with a few hotels. Houseboats operate out of Howqua, and the district is a popular destination for horse riding and fly fishing holidays.
[ top of page ] West - Merton, Bonnie Doon, Peppin Point, Maindample, Howes CreekThere are several small communities along the western approach into Mansfield on the Maroondah Highway. As well as an abundance of houses available for holiday letting, there are plenty of bed and breafasts, caravan parks, hotels, and lakeside resorts throughout the communities of Bonnie Doon, Peppins Point and Maindample. Lake Eildon is the main attraction to Mansfield's west, with fishing and boating activities being the most popular.
